INNUENDO....THE WORLDS GONE MAD

Now people know me...they know that Im not the type of guy to cause trouble but I feel that I must comment upon something that I have just witnessed on the tourney table... A player named "d**kteeth" was just asked to change his name or be banned. I for one found the name fairly amusing and in no way offensive.
This post is in no way a criticism of the mod involved as she handled the situation both fairly and politely.
My point is...having read and indeed contributed to a number of posts recently regarding umpa tossing I cannot help but feel that double standards are in operation here.
The posts are full of innuendo and double entendres (a lot of which are written by the forum moderator himself). All im asking is that a level of tolerance and a small amount of common sense be applied here.
After all....nobody expects the Spanish Inquisition...

I would be grateful if this post isnt locked or deleted as there is nothing offensive or controversial in it . I would just like to hear peoples views on the matter. The player involved is going to change his name but faces losing his chips in the bank....

Valid point gegs. Personaly I don't find it offensive, Dick and his teeth can eat at my table, so long as he keeps them in.

Hello all,

I don't know who the moderator was, and i don't want to know,
unfortunately we all have different opinions of ''jokes and the line in which you don't cross''.
I was banned a few times off the tables and forum when i started to come here about 2 year ago, for a similar thing. I was asking people whether or not they like willy...
Yes i have been involved in a lot of innuendo comments but i feel they are not over the top.

I think it depends on the context of any conversations, IE umpa lumpa tossing,
d**kteeth does seem very very close to the mark, i would love to say something BUT i cant..lmao
also with a name like that then your open to SO many boarder line/crude comments.
yes i agree its funny, BUT FOR HOW LONG.......?

so taking all points on board, surly the moderator has done the correct thing...?

WW

Sorry for my previous silly posts which annoyed you Gegs. I've come across many incidents of ridiculous political correctness on this site (the worst was when I was told to change the subject by a mod after mentioning the word Jew in the sentence - "there are a lot of jews in London" - wow, really offensive). What I find most difficult about this site is knowing how to behave around the different mods as there seems to be a lack consistency - some are forever warning you about the subjects you are talking about, some are fairly leniant, some are quite nasty and threatening(not many), most are sensible I feel and do use there common sense. I don't see anything wrong with D**kteeth and i can't imagine the sort of person that would - if there is such a person, maybe they need to be offended.

I don't entirely agree (you know I just plain don't like you) Wonka - that's banning someone retrospectively for something that hasn't happened.

No hang on retrospectively's not the right word, er, prospectively maybe - you know what I mean.

Point taken, and surprisingly its a valid one.
But the moderator could see potential problems caused by the name, so rather than wait for an episode of crude remarks, the mod asked if he could change his name before a ban, which he has.

So the moderator has done an outstanding job of extinguishing the fire before the spark...

As i said before willy...the mod in question acted in an exemplary fashion and even consulted other mods before making her decision. I have no axe to grind about her handling of the situation. BUT...I think "spending the night in a one bedroomed squat tossing umpa lumpas" is far more risque and likely to offend than a simple funny name.

Ah well...as I said, I just wanted peoples opinions. No harm done ....

again a valid point friend. when you say it like that, it does sound kinda disturbing....
i think i should possibly consult all moderators about what is acceptable and what is not......?

Firstly let me say that I personally do not find anything offensive in the name ni question in fact I think the person is making fun of himself by having the name, also I do not like telling people how they should think but this is a family site used by all ages and as such has to be monitored and if only 1 person is offended that is 1 person too many.

Browntrout shame on you I say for yuor comment that they need to be offended NOBODY deserves or neeeds to be offended, what they deserve and need is to be able to come on site and play poker in peace and without giving or taking offense.

I said "maybe" they "need" to be offended. Sorry if I offended you johnny, I was just having a dig at political correctness.

all he is saying is if we can mention umpa lumpa tossing then d**kteeth as a name should not be banned as they are both suggestive in a similar way. whether he joins in the conversation of umpa tossing or not does not need to be mentioned sexy lady. johnny nobody was offended, yet he was asked to change his name so there isnt even one person to say who is offended by that name. i have a mate called Dick. so we cant allow people with the name Dick on here? yes it is a family site, umpa tossing in the bedroom is very suggestive yet both parties have a point.

be the bigger person mods.

it would be a better decision if you stopped the innuendos on the forum. this conversation can go back and forth so by stepping up and stopping the innuendos you are 'extinguishing the fire before the spark' so to speak.

youve been here before ww where you had to delete all those threads as they were the same premise.

anyway my fifty pence worth

Please do keep in mind that Oompa-Loompas are fictional creatures...

We all have our ideas about what is offensive, and political correctness is a blanket way to keep from offending anybody. It's a tricky line. What is obscene to one, is perfectly okay for another.

So, we try to go with the PG-13 stance.
Could it be said or done in a kid's movie?

If yes, then it's allowed.

Let's not hound WW, he doesn't need it. Yes umpa lumpa tossing could mean something else - it could also just mean umpa lumpa tossing. We're all grown ups here (maybe me less so than you old gits with too much time on your hands) and I'd rather not give into people who's sensibilities are so warped thay can't take a harmless bout of humour. Shame on you gegs for starting this thread - that's a joke.

You unmuzzled yet gameover?

Yes it could be said in a PG -13 movie (12 rated film in UK) - good point.

hi dani!!

hmmm careful about that one. they use the words j**k and b**ch for example, in PG13 movies nowadays. again, member names or being referred to as such would be offensive to some...

hello browntrout old buddy old pal

nope, still not unmuzzled yet. seems to me the appeals being made are being wasted. i havnt really seen vacan around and i get the feeling he'll leave it until he decides to pop back into the site again. knowing him he'll unmuzzle me then muzzle me the moment hes gone!

Do they now?

Jerk is absolutely fine in America...the other one you mentioned, if I saw it in one kid's movie, I'd be absolutely amazed.

in the last few weeks i have seen the names d**kteeth, d**khead and d**kcheese...although i personally am not offended by these name it does speak volumes about the type of people that would dub themselves these types of names.
I think they have to be morons and should be banned for being such.

Surely people can give themselves a suitable name for public viewing and if d**kteeth is the best they can do, then who wants them anyway...

Sorry to hear that Gameover/whistleblower - that's just far too long, unfortunately I have no credence on the forum unless I'm chatting tosstalk as Vacan's designated me an "instigator" as you know.

yes dani..'bad news bears' example of pg 13 me thinks and has bad language, actually the word used is the four letter f word a few times.

yeah browntrout vacant will say many a thing or two about people whom he does not even wanna attempt to get on with. its a shambles that no action is being taken and the complaint was pointless. those that know you know you aint an instigator but its got to a stage of what can ya do. this is taking the mick is this and nobody wants to do owt about it.
