Oh my God !!!!...."BIT OF RELIGION THERE".....
I didnt mean to open a can of worms but it seems like we have one.....
Ynot...first time ive ever felt the need to disagree with you on the forum but I feel that I must..... There is a massive difference between d**kteeth compared to d**Khead or d**kcheese.....
two of the names are overtly offensive...the other one is not in the same ball park. By the way Tony, you cant call people morons because its a personal attack and as such cant be tolerated....
Bobbybuttmunch is totally correct in what he says....his name is totally and utterly out of order, but I for one am prepared to tolerate it because ...WAIT FOR IT...ITS funny.......Offensive maybe to the PC brigade but heres a question...

Bobby holds the record for the most posts on the forum, but the same fella has possibly the most offensive name on the site....
No offence intended Bobby but ...I REST MY CASE....

I suppose this is what I mean by using the words.."trying to instill and maintain PG-13 stance."

As WhistleBlower pointed out, some words do cross into kid's movies, and here we allow some of that to transpire. All we have is our personal judgment, so on the site -we try to find the appropriate line. And it's never easy. This is why the moderator in question asked several other mods their opinion.

Yes, kids use more foul language than many adults do, but that doesn't mean it's okay as adults to use profanities because there is an inherent responsibility involved when dealing with other people's kids on a privately owned site.

It's less about what adults find offensive, but rather knowing that kids do frequent the site and thusly, adhering to that stance on the matter.

Face it, we aren't all going to agree what we find offensive, and we can all shout down political correctness -and that it's clearly gone too far.

However, remember this is not a matter for the moral majority but rather trying to find the line where kids can be here without an angry letter to the admin because their parents looked over their shoulder...heh.

The admin has allowed kids from the beginning...and further has asked that unoffensive language not to be used. We would love for each person to be able to discern for themselves what is appropriate what is not.

That would be in par with an impossibly Utopian society...heh.

nice words daniella as usual....it's obvious that you are both educated and eloquent....

However....its a dangerous game to play if the powers that be can decide to allow bobby to munch butts, but ban d**k's teeth...
where do we draw the line and more importantly ..who is to say that the ruler is straight?

You're too clever wasting your time on this site with this bunch of reprobates Daniella. Well said. I love you.

You can never get all the mods to keep a consistent line, as it's a free site and they're not getting paid. If they were about to start getting strict about keeping the politically correct line in all cases, it'd make the site a less attractive place to come on.

c'mon gegsy...you don't need me to define the word "d**k" and all it's meanings, do you? regardless of whether it's followed by teeth, head or cheese the word "d**k" is probably most apt then for people who use it as a name...rather than moron. lol

browntrout...there was a time when d**k only meant richard just like the word gay only meant merry and butt meant butt not bum. unfortunately english is an ever evolving language and the context in which you use words are becoming increasingly important. It's a crying shame that this happens as i am a fan of tradition and the english language.

keep an eye on the word "hero" over the next few years and see it's meaning change. In N.Z. we have a "heroes parade" for homosexuals to express themselves. Our national "gay" rugby team call themselves "the heroes"...I hate the b*****disation of former words that used to mean something good.

Ok..How about this. A kid joins this site and decides to read a few posts and play at the tables. Heres a few examples of whats used at the tables and on the forums, and how a child may take it out of context (which they always pick up and do), they probably dont know what it means and they decide to mention them to their elders...

'mum im going to my bedroom to toss my umpa lumpa'
'youre a mofo'
'daddy whats a buttmunch'
'im a moron'
'p***y p***y'
'd**kteeth d**kteeth'

All of the above have been mentioned (and continue to be mentioned) on this site, at the tables, on the forums and a couple are names of members (or were, names of members)

Now think of it from a parents perspective. You are a parent and your child comes out with any of the above. How would you feel? What would you think?

We have words for a donkey, female dog, child born out of wedlock etc etc, you know what i mean. Why not have the fun but without the sexual innuendos? Yes its a killjoy for many but if you want to keep the forum and site a family friendly place then we musnt show double standards or make posts which can be quoted by someone outside of this site. Kids show up here too.

Where do we draw the line? Who sets the ruler straight?

Aaah what to do eh.

whistleblower...i agree totally with your comments about how we as parents would feel re our younguns copycatting from this site. the kids would not be allowed to visit here anymore. one can presume..a fairly normal reaction from mum or dad

After reading all of your posts i thought i would add my own.

I am the MODERATOR that ADVISED D**kteeth to change his name, I did not say he would be banned I said that after consulting other mods we thought it fair to ask him to change it.

Gegs I'm very surprised you posted this after you were involved in the conversation we had in the tourney room. D**kteeth admitted his name was for a joke and meant what it said. His name was not Richard. If his name had been Richard I would have been happy with it and dropped it BUT I asked him the meaning of his name and he told me to picture it and thought it was very funny.

As other Moderators have said this is a family site and children play here if a child had asked him the meaning of his name it would have been an uncomfortable conversation for the child.

I didn't find the name overly offensive until i asked him the meaning and that was when i consulted other moderators. In the tourney two other players commented on being offended by the name so what was i to do?

D**kteeth himself was absolutely fine with changing his name he seemed a fair player and I hope to see him on tables again soon with a new name!

Ali,

if you read my posts, I have in no way criticised either your good self or indeed the way you handled the situation.
I have posted this as a general questioning of our "tolerance" and "attitudes" towards certain things.
As a matter of fact though, only one player commented upon the name in any sort of negative way (murrayfold) i believe was his name and I think he was only joking. The 3 other players present, myself, angusohara and one other whos name escapes me said that they were in no way offended. Therefore out of 6 players, only perhaps 2 were bothered by it.

That is not the point though...all im saying is that we are in danger of becoming "oversensitive" and heaven forbid that we lose our sense of humour. After all, this site is a place where we can all relax, have fun and indeed make up silly names.

D**kteeth is not very imaginative or a particularly funny name, more of a ho hum than a ha ha..............

im on a horse racing site and my user name there is "Hoof Hearted"... That's funny!

WOW.

In light of recent events, i feel as though my self and Mr trout should not take part in the ''umpa lumpa tossing'',

not just because of the 'political incorrectness', but its just down right cruel............

Well done gegs, this topic is well worth a read.

No offence taken Gegs and I totally understand your point but do you really think that my name is offensive???

I don't think it even comes close to being offensive....silly definately but surely not offensive??

Gegs,

This is whiterhino, the artist formerly known as d**kteeth. I have just joined the forum, and appreciate your support. It appears that it's a split decision on if that name is truly offensive. If happyall wants to sling poo at me, she should take a better look at some of the other names out there and have a field day threatening to ban them. You saw it, I put up no resistance; claiming that I would change my name after the tourney...I did, and for cooperating I lost about 26000 chips. I guess those are gone?

Once again, thanks for your support.

whiterhino

hello friend, may i be the first to say thank you for your cooperation.

firstly,
i don't think ali wants to ''sling poo at you'', the action she took was correct,(in my opinion).

secondly,
because of your valued cooperation, i am more than whiling to ask admin to transfer any chips you had in the previous account.

Once again thank you friend.

I lied, the d**kteeth account is still open; however, I am scared to use it cause I might get banned. How do I get the 21395 chips from there to whiterhino?
