I once were at a conference where Prince Hassan of Jordan was speaking on behalf of the Club of Rome. After his speech, there was a little coffee break.
As I had a lot of drinks the day before, I was a bit dazed. Since Prince Hassan spoke in English and I had a bit of trouble with being awake and listening to foreign languages, I didn't catch a lot of what he said. Luckily, a friend of mine did and she was very impressed. After the speech, the friend of mine went to get some coffee. Prince Hassan's group did the same, so there I was: standing at a table, a bit sleepy, staring around and seeing Prince Hassan, standing alone.
So I drew the conclusion it wouldn't be hospitable to let the honourable guest stand alone there and I walked up to him. As I hadn't heard much of his speech, all I could ask was how he got involved with the Club of Rome. He elaborated about his concern for the environment and so on, and meanwhile his company graudally joined the two of us. His most remarkable acquaintance was Queen Beatrix of The Netherlands - my queen. For a couple of minutes the three of us were standing there and she was just listening to my conversation with Prince Hassan.
Since then I have a business card of Prince Hassan and some good memories :)
I once saw Nelson Mandela drive by.
A friend of mine was a lot in Dutch media last few years.
I spoke with a Member of European Parliament recently because of the climate change summit. And if I want to contact him again, two friends of mine work with him.
So I'm able to contact (Dutch) politicians quite easily, but I don't know any sports personalities.

Nicholas Cage is here! Three feet away from me, right now.
If i were a person with less self control, I could go pat him on the head.
Alas, I'm the boss-lady in charge, so no groping or patting :(

Okay, I'm in for a name drop or two...
Was in the film biz for a decade, so have a bunch of mainly B and C-listers: Mary Tyler Moore, Farrah Fawcett Majors, Mariah Carey, Jean Stapleton, Christina Applegate, Mira Sorvena, ...mmm..interesting that I can only remember women... Ellen Page...
chatted with Andre Sakorov in a park outside of Moscow in the 80's...
met Stevie Wonder and accidently (honestly) saw him in his underwear...
Pete Seeger, Pierre Trudeau (Cdn. PM), Noam Chomsky, Stephen Hawking
..alas, have never met anyone in person from TFPR ...perhaps someday I too will cross streams with gegs
