budgie jackets, crombies, harringtons and petrol blue two tone kecks.
penny rounds and kipper ties.3 star jumpers.

Top Dog footy boots (3 sizes too big so you grew into them).
fighting with brothers and sisters for free toy in cornflake box.
old spice and charlie.....
black plimsolls affectionately known in liverpool as "borstal breakouts".
thrippenny bits and going to the corner shop for 2ounces of apple tarts and 6 chocolate logs.
the old codgers at the end of the street who always moaned if you played footy outside their house or hid in their garden playing hide and seek.

Real fog all the time....and real snow at least once every year....

another geezer weighs in...

bang on...until the conclusion that the problem today is government regulating everything...

along with the toxins, running with scissors, and no on-line poker ...we had families eating together, often food grown and cooked at home, ...kids playing outside with bugs and balls and imagination, ...and, in most cases, not a lot of discretionary spending...

the biggest factors in the transition to today has been, in my opinion, constant bombardment of corporate marketing to create 'need' ...all the over-regulation is just a symptom of the over-consumption...

Childhood memories eh?

They remain forever,good and bad.

I`ve always said the best days of my life were when I was at Primary School, you had to earn respect to gain respect....
How society has changed nowadays.
Mojo`s,marbles, hopskotch, conkers, going in the street and knocking on doors when we had snow asking if they wanted their path cleaned,match-days near to where I once lived we used to ask supporters if they wanted their cars watched for 50p! Bullseye on Sunday night telly was a belter too.

Ace thread :)

Ahh, the days of my youth, so many fond memorys. Adverts for coco pops, computer games, argos, Ronsil quickdrying woodstein...getting up to change the tv to see what adverts were on channel 4... sitting back down again for 7 hours with your family in utter silence with your jaws hanging open...driving to the supermarket, walking 30 agoraphobic yards to the entrance to be soothed by all the wonderfully coloured and pristinely packaged products, buying a bunch of products you heard about on tv...driving home... and then in 1997 we got a new tv channel!

Old leather footballs that would soak up the rain and mud and push your head out of your arse when you tried to clear them, the laces leaving a scar on your forehead to make it look like the place to unzip your brain. And those pimply, plastic balls that used to make you want to pull your teeth out to ease the pain when they were lashed into your thigh from close quarters on a freezing day. Football pitches that had to be a quagmire from the end of September to mid March and the tin bath, filled with cold water, except for the piss that the first in left to warm it up.
Standing with your school mates outside headmaster's office waiting for the cane, trying to laugh away the fear and praying you wouldn't cry.
Whit Sunday parades where you polished your shoes so your new suit would reflect in them.
Wagon wheels as big as a plate and gobstoppers that would take months to suck away.
Laughing at the ricket ridden old men and telling them they couldn't stop a pig in a passage.
Gas street lamps you could swing from.
Blue police telephone boxes with fag stubs all round
Public toilets
Butlins and summers where the sun always shone and we burned, peeled, burned, peeled till autumn saved us from malignant melanoma.
Making toast on an asbestos sheet over a camping gaz stove, proving that ignorance is bliss.
Sitting out on a summer's evening with mates. Talking of dreams, ambition, aspirations, knowing that to get out from the gutter you either robbed or grafted but we all knew we would be something.
Scrumpy that made you sick as a dog and pinching apples for the hell of it.
Tickling trout.
20-a-side football in the park when even grandads would join in for ten minutes and try to kick lumps out of you.
A thriving textile industry, the envy of the world, dark, satanic mills now soulless apartments.
England winning the world cup and a toothless nobby stiles dancing like a court jester and we thought Besty, though Irish, was god.

What I would put in room 101 gudge is folk that take their mobile phones to concerts and instead of rocking out to the music ... stand there, like David Bailley, with their mobile phones up high, trying to capture the moment - instead of just enjoying it.

There must have been a million kids living on my block, every one of us out playing until it got dark. Kick the can, hide & seek, cowboys & indians, GI Joe...

The ice cream man came every day during the summer, you could set your watch by him.

When I was old enough to drive I bought a car for a coupla hundred bucks with a V8 engine. These days those cars are classics and, even as rust buckets, they're worth 5 times their price when they were new. I feel sorry for kids these days in their little Honda Civics...

I'm suprised nobody mentioned reel to reel tape recorders. They made a short comeback in the 80's after cassettes were the big items because they would play for hours on end. Then along came CD's.

Great memories, a big thank you to shaunieboy.
