As some of you might have noticed, I have been posting weekly topics about poker subjects for many months.
As I was trying to decide what this week's topic should be, I totally drew a blank.
I have an unfinished article about "how to play table 5", but I realized half way through it that I really am not interested in the subject, and also that any advice I could give about that would be such a hopelessly useless waste of time. It would just ruin your playing quality.
The main reason for my writer's block is that, I have gone to the next stage and am playing in real-money poker sites, and now the topics I am concentrating on are irrelevant to this site. for example bankroll management, multi tabling and tournaments with > 10 players.
Also, I am more and more painfully aware of the fact that I know almost nothing about poker, and you guys should not really believe anything I write on the subject.
So instead of writing a poker topic, I decided to write a
thank you
to this site for:
* giving me a safe and painless entry into the world of poker
* for providing a friendly atmosphere both at the tables and on the forums
* for the fantastic Free Pokerroom League
* for this community
* and for giving me an opportinity to write these topics. I have learned a lot from doing that.
I probably will be frequenting this site a lot less now, and probably stop writing here, but I will surely play in the league as long as I have a position in a team.

spilari, you are a true gentleman. One who gave us so much of your time and with gusto. I don't think I have ever thanked you properly for your contributions and that I regret.
Thank you friend, you will always have a place in our league and on this site. You are a quality member.

This makes me really sad and I actually feel that the site will never be the same without you spil.
I have been playing here for nearly 3 years and i can honestly say that nobody in my memory has made such an impact and contribution on the site within such a short space of time.
Your posts have become part of the Freepokerroom folklore and I will miss them greatly. Also,(and this is something not everybody realises) you are without doubt one of the funniest fellas it has been my pleasure to call a friend.
Drop in from time to time to say Hi mate, and best of luck in your online poker endeavours.
PS. I write this at 20.35 hours knowing that i'm gonna kick your butt in the league match at 21.00.
Ooh la la !!!

Secretly...
A lot of us play on pay sites, which is a lot more like playing in real life.
It's totally apples and oranges...and I learned a long time ago that my technical knowledge of poker isn't really of much use to many people here.
However...
This place is just special. Playing on pay sites is a quiet adventure. You don't make friends with one another, you don't chat...and definitely don't expect any kind of comradeship.
I understand that trying to deconstruct table 5...and coming up with a coherent strategy is not explaining how poker is truly played.
I look at it as an entirely different game.
Most never care to listen that play in first position is completely different than sitting on the button. And no, Ace/Rag is not a good hand...heh.
Still...
What this site has is something I've never come across before. As you mentioned about the warm community...yes, friendships are made, relationships are formed...and though it's a different experience from playing for real money -the experience is something I'd never trade for anything.
What we do...is do both.
=)

spil...it is a pleasure knowing you and having you as a teammate...sharp mind, great skills, and dry wit...what's not to like?
I know that you'll be around less..but look forward to the rest of the league season with you as a central force on the Aces.

Also, I am more and more painfully aware of the fact that I know almost nothing about poker...
Btw...
The *real* sign of a truly good player!!
=)
It's definitely a lifetime process, that's for certain.

Thank you for your contributions to this forum spilari and good luck with your future gaming.
If you find inspiration again feel free to write here. I'd find it very interesting to read about your progress and experiences here. So I hope you'll be back too :-)
I am sure many here are interested in bankroll management e.t.c. since many people use this site as a training ground before starting to play with real money.
