The word "miracle" in ice hockey is used to refer to the USA's two biggest upsets in the sport — in the 1960 and 1980 Winter Olympics, both on US ice.

Another miracle happened on "Super Sunday" when the underdog Team USA shook down the towering powerhouse of Team Canada, decked with superstars from end to end.

1980 can't be compared to, as it was essentially a college hockey team that defeated the mighty USSR in that legendary Olympic semi-final. But where the talent is so well spread across the men's game right now, USA's 5-3 victory over Canada on the 21st of February 2010 was something special.

Just like in 1980, a team picked as a team, not just as the best players, won the day.

It was, however, just a pool game.

Ultimately, I think the loss to USA was perfect for Team Canada, and perfect for the sport.

Suddenly the hockey-god talents of the Canadians will be the underdogs.
Having to face adversity is the only thing that can forge Canada's gold into steel.

Meanwhile, the Americans have proven that anyone can have a crack, and we in TV land get hooked. Finally, a contest full of drama, passion and rivalries!

A USA Vs Canada final is what we have here and ice hockey will be the winner.

"Miracle" enough for me, though, is Foxtel's coverage of the sport. I'll be watching every possible minute, looking for new miracles.

And for those who think I just googled 'ice hockey blog', copy and pasted the first expert opinion, then posted it here, well, you'd be right lol.

Hahahaha....I should have known. The only reason there is a hype about it is that USA is the second team in the final. Over the past 40 years Canada and US has been just one more good team amongst the 7 big hockey powers. Russia leading the way. The winner always have just that little luck on the way to the glory.

Still, it will be a cracking final. My very chauvinistic/nationalistic hope is that in 4 years time it will be the Finns agin in the final....and winning it for once...;-))

Good luck for both.

Personally I believe that in the not too distant future you will see Australia become a powerhouse of icehockey.
My only question about the game is how do they make a puck out of ice and how do they stop said puck from melting or breaking up during the game.

Why don't they make that puck thing bigger so it's easier to see? Or maybe put flashing lights on it. I love it when they start a riot, those ice dudes are crazy, not as nuts as the Curlers but crazy. Those Curlers are rock n roll stars!

I think the US team coaching must be fantastic (Ron Wilson)..because on paper they are no where near the team Canada should be. Their defense is strong, Miller is hot, some great young forwards...but depth? I don't get it.

If both teams play the best they are capable of...I say Canada wins 5-3.

Go Canada!

Ok i,m gonna weigh in here, i, being an american will pull for the home team,, having said that years ago before i had cable and flat screens and computers to keep me going,, i found a tv show on our local public station called the red green show,.now any country that has a show like that ,,cant be bad,,i have taped them and bought them and it was a highlite of my week to watch red and harold and the boys live and do as real men do at possum lodge.I was sorry to see red retire,,so over the years i have felt a kinda of kinship to the Canadian ppl because of that show..i`m sure its gonna be one hell of a match and whoever wins i think i will feel good about it. Now remember " i,m pullin for ya and where all in this together"

Sure..is possible, Allined. US has a great team.

chefbuddy...The Red Green Show ran on PBS too. The main guy is Steve Smith. One of the main reasons he retired (he actually told me this) was the Red Green voice was doing permanent damage to his throat. Have you taken the Lodge Pledge? "I'm a man, but I can change, if I have to."
