This particular topic had special meaning for me.....
Willy Wonka and the Chcolate Factory was, coincidently, the first movie I ever saw at the cinema. I was 6 or 7 yrs old and at the time and it was the greatest thing I had ever seen. I remember our city was in the throws of a heatwave and the picture theatre was very cool and refreshing and mum kept saying "this is lovely".
I was buzzing for days afterwards and still get warm fuzzies when I think about it.
So for me there is no comparison.
Even though jonny depp is a far better actor than gene wilder, the fact remains that the original movie rules and so does the original willy

Well I like the new version,we all know that he borrowed some equipment from the movie set of "Blow" so that is why Mr wonka is so free,gay and happy.
The eye's alway's give it away Mr Wonka Aka Boston George.LOL

Also just to add to that the first Mr Wonko later turned into the netorious Lord we all know as Pablo Escabar.How life's little experience's change people,the ompa's did it..LOL

sorry to disagree ynot but jonny depp isnt fit to lace gene wilders boots. HAVE U NOT SEEN STIR CRAZY!!!!....wilder is a brilliant actor. depp is one of those actors who seems to be the darling of the press for choosing unusual roles.

There is no comparison here. The older one is so much better than the newer one. Even though I am Johnny's biggest fan he disappointed me when he tried to act in the newer production of this story. Gene is just so much more cooler in this movie. OLDER ONE RULES NO MATTER WHAT ANYONE SAYS!!!!!
