Poker brings out the worst in people.

Thx for doing this thread Dani, its cool ... when you deal for the celebs, have any of them ever said "don't you know who I am!?", lol, I reckon it must be easy to miss a lot of "celebs" if they are say acting on a soap you never watch, for example.

p.s. sorry for the non-technical poker question

Dear Daniella,

How do casinos make their money from Hold'em? I have have never played poker anywhere but on this site and no-money friendly home games. Is there an ante system? A flat table fee? Or a share of pots?

Thank you, Ma'am.

have you ever dealt JJ to a player,
but flashed one of his J that had to be burnt,
and then flopped JJA followed by two blanks,
making him lose his shirt vs pocket AA ?

Dear Dani - what is your view on coffee housing [I believe its: talking about your cards during the hand and misrepresenting it] related to internet poker?

I believe its more acceptable in the USA to do it - but with a site that has users from everywhere, i wonder how taboo it really is?

Naw, really the coolest part of poker is that celebs take a backseat to the poker celebrities...and mostly just play their game. I once saw Paris Hilton and later had to be told it was her. She just looked like a some blond chick playing. But true, poker is for people with cash...so it's often high profile people, you may never know who they are.

Yup...
About 5 to 10% of every round dealt...not to exceed $4.00...in Las Vegas, anyway.

Glad you brought up 'burning' a card. Many people, I realize from chatting here...do not know what a burned card is.

It's a card which is placed face down out of play due to the dealer flashing a player's card.

Burning and turning:
The next card is placed face down and the next one in the deck is then placed on the board. One before the flop, as well. This means that every other card is played for the turn and river.

Hello Dani,
My question is.
During internet play, can you tell what another player has in their hand?
If so, how? This may sound like a very daft question (and possibly is) lol

The thing about poker people...is they tilt quite easily.
People get crazy, and sometimes the floor has to be called. Cards thrown, chips splashed, obscenities...it all happens.

You often hear from across the room..."You re-raised me with Q/10?....wtf is wrong with you?" ...heh.

I totally wish I could. This is why free poker is it's own game. People will and do CALL WITH ANYTHING. Don't want to be a donk?...just don't call with 10/4 os, because you may win -but ya ain't playing good poker.

Winning does not make you good...seriously.
Ironic isn't?

Telegraphing your next action before your turn. Never show people you are about to fold, call or raise. It changes the dynamic of the game.

Hi Daniella..

Thanks for these great pearls of wisdom...

If the blinds are low, is it always worth paying to see the flop? On here in tourneys i always fold "C£$p" hands and often see them come up on the flop and i would have ended up winning the pot. I never feel bad about it as i'd rather win with a good hand.. but maybe i'm wrong and should pay the blind just in case?????

Thank you for this excellent question.

The thing about tourneys, is that the longer you stay in -the more flops you get to see. Don't ever feel bad for laying down garbage hands. We only remember when we connect with them, but more often than not -they do not hit. And again, playing badly and winning just makes you a donk who will eventually lose your entire stack.

That said...
Small blinds, sure I'll limp in with J/8 suited....if the position is good and enough money is in the pot. I often play nominal hands when the pot is a nice stack and winning it...is pretty cheap.

Same goes for being in the small blind with 10/8 suited and a lot of people have limped already. I always look at the pot size before making any decision.
