how would you split the teams into the two groups?

..not sure if you are asking about what I was describing or what hovis put out there..

For what I was suggesting: no splitting needed, just a league for Hold Em with as many teams as can be managed, then another set of teams to form the Omaha league.

A team could stay together for both leagues, or entirely new teams could be formed.

Bento thanks for the responce mate. But if we did to sepertae leagues there would be a total of 30 games played by each team. if split teams into two group for each from of the game, how will the two group be decided?

ok guys ur choice have texas holdem by itself and lose out to the dealers.
have omaha aswell and lose to the dealers in two competitions.
just bear in mind can u cope with dbl the amount of despair?

ps i would prefer no omaha as the season would drag on and become less as exiting because its so regular, think christmas day everday. sounds good but it'll soon wear on. also id like to state that this is my view and not the view of the mighty dealers, it's representative's or any of its affiliate's

I have relfected on this - and I think that maybe if we had an omaha cup and left all the league battles to be only holdem, then that might suit everybody. ?

That way omaha will be there, but won't be taking up too much of the calendar.

low-e argon gas also recommended, hovis ..I just completed my house with 58 windows and not a single re-install required so far..I too have been having pc disasters..gd. luck

macdaddy...you sure you aren't my wife? ..I can't seem to make myself clear, which isn't surprising given my lack of clarity. Some teams might play 30 games..but only if both leagues were made up of 16 teams and you played in both leagues. What I was suggesting was, for example only, let's say the IAK chose only the Hold Em league, then those are the only games they would play. If any of the IAK players wanted to be on an Omaha team, they could form one or join one (which would not then be the IAK).

gollum..I must say, as soon as I heard about Omaha I thought about how the Dealers have so many fine Omaha players...but in terms of Hold 'Em we'll be ready this year, my friend.

I think Panda is bang on...Hold 'Em for league play and Omaha for special events would be swell.

lol bento. i understand what u mean but i feel its also important to keep the integrity of the team and not have different teams for omaha

what i mean was that the only was it would be practicable is if the was a Group A and B both for omaha and holdem which would total the amount of games played to 14 one more than last year, but how would we determine who was in group A and group B, unless there was a draw.

This way you could have a omaha champ and a holdem champ, but the problem with this way is u dont get to play every team and i know must of us looking to play the dealer next seaso after their undefeated season

I think omaha league sounds like a great idea. I really hope it does go ahead. Maybe there can be a best of the best tourney at the end of the season- whichever players are best in both catagories?

Oh and just to throw a spanner in the works, im a great believer that if the cheese is blue, the horse is too

Well Cloned and Lefty...clearly Sir hovis has put a ton of time, effort, blood, and tears into this league.

So when he asks for opinion and analysis, those of us who have also invested as tad of work into shaping and running our teams, and who also get a lot of enjoyment out of playing, state our ideas and issues.

You choose to 'just play cards' ..fine. Some choose to engage and help out constructively ..that should be fine too.

Someday maybe we can all hold hands on a hilltop and sing a song together.

Sorry I missed this thread the first time around. Must of got buried amonst all the other forum junk which I try and ignore. Can't say I'm convinced of the merits of Omaha as a tourney game and wouldn't of wanted it to be incorporated into the league. The trial game I played (hooves v sisters) was excrutiatingly slow, and won be someone who didn't understand the rules - which for me was testimony to omaha being a daft bingo game with little scope for the same level of team play that the hold 'em format presents.

Bento your "Some choose to engage and help out constructively .." post was spot on. Nice one buddy.

I try and contribute when I can and if my comments or ideas aren't used or embraced, then I don't mind - but we shouldn't be made to feel bad for trying to help.

Yeah I just presumed that a thread called "Omaha in league or not?" opened by the league organiser hovis on a poker forum in which the league organiser is asking for help in deciding the new league format justified the two pages of people's opinions about omaha and it's implications for the league.

It looks like the new season's league format has been decided on with the "yes omaha should be incorporated into the league" vote getting the go ahead. As Bento already asked, will this definately be the case hovis?

Bento I ment no dis-respect to anyone who has involvement with running the leagues, especially hovis.

It was ment as a light hearted comment to break up what looked like a was going to become a heated debate and people falling out with each other.

If this touched a nerve i apologise.

For what its worth i think there should be one league, to encourage a wider and varied team. With the teams having stronger players for each type of game it would allow for varied team selection. It would also make teams think about who they recruit and why.
Plus it will encourage players to play both games if the team has smaller numbers.

Ps. What song did you want to sing on the hilltop ?

I did choose to engage and help out constructively on page 1 of this thread. I very much appreciate how much blood, sweat, tears and gummy bears went into this league on hovis's part (that man is my own personal hero). That's why I think it's better not to run away with ourselves and to keep things relatively manageable and simple, just to make sure he and Tiandra don't fall over from anemic dehydration and/or sugar shock.

The sentiment from rat's post that I so wholeheartedly agreed with was that the league was created as a fun way to have some friendly competition. Hovandra did an amazing job last season and i have faith that they will do the same this time around.

I do look apprehensively at how the competitiveness of the league has already created drama and friction in the off season. And when all this spills over into the forum and onto tables, it changes the feel of this place.

I'd rather just be loling with you, is that okay too?

Hey ClonedRat...no disrespect given or taken...cheers.

In terms of which hilltop song, we could decide by forming a committee made up of all the league vice-captains and thier assistants, who can meet on alternate Thursdays under the Omaha high stakes table, or Wednesday mornings if isn't raining in the Hold 'Em waiting room if we go with a split league format and it isn't being used for practising for the Knock-up Cup. Or....we could could just hum Wonderful World together.

Lefthandwoman...I see through the veneer of your post to your deep longing to be near me: 'run away', 'fall over', 'wholeheartedly', 'spills', 'feel'. Alas, I am righthanded and left-brained..dancing conflict is inevitable.

It was the idea of a hilltop singalong that did me in
I guess we'll always have line-dancing

Line dancing ? You sure ?

Next you'll be suggesting morris dancing !! Mind you that could be fun, if it was a penalty for teams that couldn't field a full team for league games.

PMSL oh boy where are my sanity pills, i feel a lull coming on.
